Kevin Hamaker Profile
"Kevin could play both ways," Coach Smyth said. "He's not just a good blocker, he's a finisher. No block is ever enough for him he just doesn't quit. He's a little short, so he's being recruited mainly as a center, but he is definitely a legit Division I-A prospect."
Hamaker went under the radar for most of the recruiting process, but South Carolina, Clemson, North Carolina, Maryland, and Georgia Southern have shown a lot of interest in the standout.
"From what the coaches have been telling me North Carolina, South Carolina, Clemson, and Georgia Southern are real close to offering me," said the 6-foot-3, 290-pound Hamaker. "I went to South Carolina's prospect camp this past weekend. I went to Clemson prospect camp and in July I'm going to Florida's Down and Dirty Lineman Camp."
Hamaker has a top five in Clemson, South Carolina, Florida State, Nebraska, and North Carolina.
Clemson: "I like the up class, proper, and organized way they run things."
South Carolina: "I like their coaching staff a lot. I have some friends and teammates that are going there."
Florida State: "I grew up watching them. Greg Jones came from my school and he played there."
Nebraska: "That's another team I grew up watching. They have always had a hard nosed team."
North Carolina: "I just always have liked them. They are always one of the teams that are on the rise. They have been recruiting me the hardest."
Hamaker claims that everyone in his top five is dead even at this point and he plans to make a decision in a few months.
"I would like to have a decision by October or November," he said. "I don't want to go way on the West Coast, so being close to home is important. Academics are real important and I want to play on a good winning football team."
Hamaker boasts a 3.45 GPA and an 1120 on the SAT. He plans to major in Architectural Engineering.
