Michael Washington Profile
Allendale-Fairfax (S.C.) safety Michael Washington is having trouble coping with the start of his season. Despite playing well, he cannot get accustomed to three losses.
"We have a young team, so things haven't been going too well so far," says the 6-foot-3, 210 pounder. "We start regional play this Friday."
Allendale-Fairfax has one win to three losses this season, but that is not keeping Washington down. His stats look good at a new position.
"I should be close to forty tackles. I haven't had as many chances to get interceptions because, well I'm being recruited as a free safety, but I'm playing Sam linebacker now to help stop the run. I have about five pass breakups but I haven't had a chance to pick one off yet."
Teams are all over Washington, waiting to see how he responds to the season and the change in position.
"Georgia is sending me letters, North Carolina State, and Notre Dame too, but I'm talking to Coach (Ron) West from Clemson, Coach (Rick) Stockstill from (South) Carolina, and Coach Dick Portee from North Carolina State. Georgia hasn't called yet, so I don't know what is up with them, but those are the schools I am looking at."
Washington is holding steady at two offers from the in-state schools, but his mind is changing as to when he may commit
"Clemson and South Carolina offered scholarships and they want me to commit right now, but I was trying to really wait to see how my season goes. I'm having a good season, but as a team, you know, so I might go ahead. I don't know, I need to sit down and talk with my coach and my uncle."
In making the decision, one thing will stand out to Washington.
"I really want to go somewhere that I can play next year; I'm not the type that wants to sit on the bench. I'm looking at the depth charts and talking to the coaches because I don't want to redshirt, I want to play when I get there."
No official visits have been set, but Washington has taken his first unofficial visit of the year.
"I went to Clemson on Saturday for their game against Georgia Tech. I loved the atmosphere."
