Devon Dawson received an offer from South Carolina last month, and people believe that the Greer (S.C.) offensive lineman is ready to be a Gamecock.
"It's true. I'm still trying to get in touch with them, but I am ready to commit," says the 6-foot-3, 300 pounder. "I don't know, there is just something about them. When I went down to the Georgia game I knew that was the place for me."
So what is holding Dawson back from making it all official?
"I was trying to get a hold of Coach Stockstill, but I lost his number. My coach (Travis Perry) told me that he would call Coach (Lou) Holtz."
Coach Perry, who coached Tennessee freshman Sinclair Cannon last season, is certainly amenable to the commitment.
"He said that if that is the school I like, then go ahead and do what I want to do."
Dawson, who commits to the Gamecocks over interest from Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, and Florida State, broke his thumb in the preseason and has a new injury.
"I'll be back. It was my knee, just a freak play. A man came in while I was pulling and bent the knee, but I will be alright."
