South Carolina Practice Report

Columbia, S.C. - South Carolina's football team worked out in full pads Tuesday afternoon as preparations continued for this Saturday's matchup against the Kentucky Wildcats in Lexington, Ky. Kickoff at Commonwealth Stadium is 7 p.m. The game will be televised on a pay-per-view basis back to the state of South Carolina. Check your local cable companies on how to order ...

* Injury update from the Gamecock camp: QB Dondrial Pinkins (bruised shoulder) did not practice and is listed as doubtful for Saturday's game. C John Strickland (ankle sprain) did not practice and is listed as doubtful. WR Travis Lee (broken finger) is out. LB Lance Laury (knee) was back at full speed and should be available for Saturday's contest.

* Following the workout, head coach Lou Holtz met with the media. Here are some of his comments: "I think you could call this 'Black Tuesday.' It was not one of our better performances. I don't know how to describe it. We've got to turn the corner somehow. We just don't have the consistency we need to have in the running game. Our wide receivers and quarterbacks are doing some good things and our running backs are doing some good things in the passing game. What was the old saying 'that Will Rogers never met a man he didn't like.' Well, he wouldn't have liked me today. I was not in a good mood at practice. You could say I was a drop out from the Dale Carnegie School of How to Win Friends and Influence People. Some of the players responded well today, and others didn't. I went by the locker room to see some of the players after practice. It was that kind of day ... We worked Demetris Summers at returning punts today. We've lost too much field position in that area ... I want Demetris to carry a bigger load offensively. We're looking at Andrea Gause some at wide receiver, because of losing Travis Lee. Right now, our starting offensive line would be Chris White at center, Jabari Levey at left tackle, Jonathan Alston at right guard, Na'Shan Goddard at right tackle ... I'm not sure who the left guard would be. We worked Woodly Telfort, Chris Tucker, Web Brown and Freddy Saint-Preux there today. We definitely need to become more consistent inside. (on the play of linebacker Rod Wilson) ... I love Rod Wilson, both as a player and as a person. He could play anywhere I've coached; Notre Dame, Ohio State; anywhere. He's as good a person off the field as he is a player on the field. Maybe better."

* Tailback Demetris Summers says his ankle feels 100 percent and he hopes to be more effective in the running game Saturday vs. Kentucky ... More than 4,000 USC fans are expected to make the trip to Lexington ... Cornerback Johnathan Joseph, who has been out since the season's second game with a broken foot, hopes to have his cast removed in the next several days. Then, his foot would be placed in a boot cast.
