Gamecock Fans Look Forward to Florida

Gamecock fans reveled in the 35-32 victory over Arkansas on Saturday. Fearful of the dreaded November curse, the USC-Arkansas history and the disappointing loss to Tennessee, had many fans biting their nails before the game ever started. All of that ended as KO Simpson hammered the final nail in the Razorbacks coffin with a mere minute left on the game clock...

South Carolina Gamecocks captured the much needed sixth victory guaranteeing an extended season and holiday travel plans. As the team became bowl eligible, the monkey riding on their backs for the past few seasons was undeniably cast off.

As the Carolina faithful begins to ponder next week's game with Florida, they are discussing and debating many of the intricacies on which they are making their predictions. The Gamecock squad must travel to The Swamp and play the Gators on their own turf. Never an easy task. However, the controversies surrounding the Florida program seem to have diminished them to a certain degree. In Saturday's game against Vanderbilt, the Gator's fell behind 17-7 before finally capturing a 34-17 victory. Should they perform in this fashion against a hungry Gamecock squad, fans expect the outcome will be hugely different.

Both schools are facing tough times in regard to coaching controversy and rumors revolving around Steve Spurrier. The University of Florida is evidence of what this can do to a football program. It is imperative that Carolina fans remain focused. We have an excellent Coach in Lou Holtz and a very bright future for the conclusion of the 2004 season. All energy and expectations should remain on THIS year. The game has been picked up by ESPN2 and will air at 7:00 pm.

Once we have defeated the Gators all eyes will be on Death Valley. Their overtime victory Saturday against Miami has the Tigers elated. Typically, Tommy Bowden's squads seem to start poorly and finish with a flourish. This year appears to be no exception. Despite a questionable pass interference call late in the game, Clemson came up with the victory. Game Over. This year's state rivalry is shaping up to be fight of biblical proportion. The edge may go to the healthiest team as of November 20th as passion and talent will be equally potent on both sides of the ball.

So that's it Gamecock fans. We have the sixth win we desperately needed and we're going Bowling. Which Bowl will it be? Scouts from five different bowls were in the Williams Brice on Saturday and all seemed very impressed with the fans and the team. The outcome of the final two games will determine our holiday travel plans. We must go into Florida confidant. We must continue to support the team and expect the win. We must continue to be the Iron Fans of college football and bring home victory number seven.

Congratulations to every person associated with this year's Gamecock squad. Thanks to the seniors that have played their final game in the Williams Brice for their years of hard work and dedication. You may leave, but you'll always be Gamecocks in our eyes.

Bring on the Gators!
