Frisby Receives Two Awards In Orlando This Week

Columbia, S.C. - After taking final exams, South Carolina wide receiver Tim Frisby will leave Columbia Wednesday for Orlando, Fla., where he will receive two major national awards...

Frisby will be honored Thursday during The Home Depot 2004 College Football Awards Show with the Walt Disney World of Sports Spirit Award, given annually to college football's most inspirational student-athlete or team. ESPN's live coverage of the event begins at 7 p.m. Thursday night. Chris Fowler, Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit and Mike Gleason host the show. The award will be presented by NFL Hall of Famer and current Disney Sports Attractions executive Kellen Winslow.

The next night, Frisby will be on hand for the taping of the Cingular ABC Sports All-America Celebration, where he will be presented with the Keith Jackson Award for Excellence. The program will be aired nationally by ABC Sports at 2 p.m. EST/3 p.m. PST on Saturday. Keith Jackson, John Saunders, Brent Musburger and Lynn Swann host the show.

Frisby is a 39-year-old walk-on who earned a spot on the USC football team after retiring from a 20-year tour in the Army. The father of six children ranging in age from 16 years to eight months, Frisby was an elite Army Ranger and served with the 82nd Airborne Division during his time in the military. He saw game action against Troy University and against Clemson this year.

Known as "Pops" by his teammates, Frisby's story has been well-documented by the national media this year. In addition to being featured on ESPN's College Football GameDay, Frisby has also been to New York to appear as a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman and to Los Angeles to appear as a guest on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. NBC's Today Show came to Columbia for four days to shoot a lengthy piece that aired during the season. Frisby has also appeared as a guest on ESPN2's Cold Pizza, The Jane Pauley Show and Live From CNN in addition to being featured in The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times.
