Tommy Beecher Profile
After contemplating the decision since Coach Steve Spurrier offered him last Saturday, Tommy Beecher of Concord (N.C.) finally pulled the trigger and verbally committed to the Gamecocks.
"I did commit to South Carolina today," the 6-foot-2, 205-pound quarterback stated. "I'm pretty excited about that.
"I did it today around 10 o'clock. I told Coach [Steve] Spurrier yesterday that I was going to go home and talk to my parents and sleep on it and hope to have a decision by today and I was able to make a decision today.
"He sounded pretty excited [when I talked to him], and I hope he is because I'm pretty excited to play for him."
Beecher was impressed with Spurrier's resume that includes his ability to develop quarterbacks and his pass heavy offensive scheme.
"I liked that in the past the way he ran his offenses and his ability to pass the ball," explained Beecher. "Also his ability to get quarterbacks into the NFL and that's ultimately what I what I'd like to do. It's a pretty hefty goal, but I figured that if it was going to be done then Coach Spurrier would be the one of all coaches to get me there."
Beecher's only other offer was from Richmond, but the Scout.com two-star prospect has seen his stock raise the last few weeks. He admits, though, that if another school were to step in the picture that it would be pretty hard to steal him away from Spurrier.
