USC Heads to 6th Straight NCAA Tournament

Columbia, S.C. - The South Carolina baseball team will be making its sixth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the seventh under head coach Ray Tanner. The Gamecocks (38-21) will face Michigan (41-17) in the Atlanta regional on Friday, June 3, as the No. 2 seed in the regional. Times and ticket information will be announced later on today...

The other two opponents in the Gamecocks' regoinal bracket are Furman (30-27), and Georgia Tech (42-16). The Yellow Jackets are the No. 2 national seed in the 2005 NCAA Tournament and the No. 1 seed in Atlanta Regional. Furman is seeded fourth in the regional.

This marks the 21st appearance for the Gamecocks in the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks are one of nine teams from the SEC to play in the 2005 NCAA Championships and one of six schools from the state of South Carolina to make the field. The nine schools in the SEC and the six schools from the state of South Carolina are the most in each of those categories.

The last time Carolina played Michigan was on March 12, 1986. The Wolverines took a 6-4 victory on that day in the only meeting between the two teams.
