Fink will assumed his duties at Carolina on July 18.
"I am delighted Steve will join us at South Carolina," said Hyman. "He is a consummate professional and a terrific colleague. When the Director of Media Relations position was open at TCU five years ago, we did a national search and Steve came to us highly recommended from the Kansas City Royals. He has a wealth of experience and his talents should be a real asset to the Carolina athletics department."
"I'm excited to join the South Carolina family," said Fink. "I know there is tremendous fan support and enthusiasm surrounding the Gamecocks' athletic program and I look forward to working with the outstanding administrators, coaches and student-athletes at USC."
While at TCU, Fink coordinated the publicity efforts for the school's 19 intercollegiate athletic teams and oversaw the day-to-day operations of the media relations department. In addition, he served as the primary media contact for football, track & field and cross country. Under his public relations supervision, TCU has won 25 conference titles in five years.
Fink came to Fort Worth after serving as the media contact for the Kansas City Royals for over 12 years. Prior to his stint with the Royals, Fink served as Director of Public Relations for the Denver Zephyrs, a Triple-A baseball club, from 1986 to 1987. Fink served as Assistant Sports Information Director at the University of Colorado from 1984 to 1986, coordinating all media responsibilities for the Buffaloes' men's basketball team, while also serving as primary media contact for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
A member of CoSIDA, Fink has produced several publications that have received national recognition. He was a 2005 recipient of the Scoop Hudgins Outstanding SID Award for his performance in football. He earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 1982 and received his Master's degree in Athletic Administration from Western Illinois University in 1984. Fink and his wife, Charlene, have two children: Lauren (14) and Ryan (11).
