Saturday's Practice Report

This practice reports sums up nicely what we have been trying to explain to you for weeks now. While others have blown smoke up your skirts, we have been saying everything contained in this quick release. Remember, Steve Spurrier does not mince words. If your expectations are too high, you are going to be disappointed ...

The South Carolina Gamecock football squad worked out for two hours on the Bluff Road practice fields Saturday afternoon, finishing just minutes before a heavy rain fell. Here are head coach Steve Spurrier's comments following the practice:

"Another average practice - nothing exciting happening. I hope we can play a little more efficiently next Thursday night. We're not as sharp on offense as I hope we will be, but we still have time to improve.

"Kris Clark may be our best receiver right now. As far as a guy getting open and catching everything in practice, he does it every day.

"(Ryan) Succop will be the kickoff man definitely. I would guess Josh (Brown), being a senior and more experienced is probably the extra point-field goal guy, unless it's a real long one. Ryan's got a little longer leg.

"We're going to try to put on a decent performance. I wish we were a little sharper than we are. We are what we are right now. We've got to try to do whatever's best to win the game. I hope the fans aren't expecting too much. We'll see how it plays out."

Coach Spurrier will hold a press conference on Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. The squad will work out from 4:15 - 6:15 p.m. on the practice fields later Sunday afternoon.
