Gray Working Teammate Barnes

Mark Barnes, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound prospect from Richland Northeast in Columbia, S.C., is one of the Palmetto State's two five-star prospects for the class of 2007. The multi-position athlete, who plays at safety and wide receiver, just recently achieved his star ranking and was quite pleased with it.

"I feel real good about the five-star. I think I really deserved it from the hard work I have been doing. I'm still not satisfied because there are still eyes that I have to earn respect from," said Mark Barnes. "I just have to come out with this year coming up with a serious game mode. I basically have to pick my game up because I feel there shouldn't be any questions about me in playing, as well as rankings and respect."

Barnes has a definite plan for the summer months heading into his senior season.

"My plans this year are to go to as many colleges that I prefer so I can get a better view before I just up and come up with a college that I want to go to. I really have no top schools right now, and it all depends on how the schools do their jobs correctly and honestly."

With the South Carolina Gamecocks already having teammate, and highly regarded corner back Gary Gray in the fold for '07, the recruiting by Gray has already begun.

"Gary Gray and not only him, but Quintin Richardson are both trying very hard. Gary is just the top recruiter right now I think out of everything. I can't even be around him without hearing what they can do if I was to go there with him and things like that. I guess that's what it is about when you commit early."
