Welcome to GamecockAnthem

Welcome. As the new publishers of the South Carolina Scout.com site, known from now on as GamecockAnthem.com, we'd like to introduce ourselves and tell you about some of the great things coming your way.

We are father and son team and co-publishers Doug & Jonathan Jolley. We know there are other resources for information about Carolina athletics. We want you to know that we've got our sleeves rolled up and are ready to work hard for you, bringing you the most complete and up-to-date coverage available on all things Gamecock. If there is something happening that's important to Carolina fans, you can trust that you will find it right here. We have built a solid list of sources (inside and outside the program) that you can rely on for accurate info about Gamecock recruiting.

We recognize how unique the fan base is for the University of South Carolina. Through thick and thin, Gamecock fans have proven themselves to be among the most loyal college fans anywhere in the country, and you deserve to have a website that returns your loyalty by providing a community atmosphere where you can join other passionate USC fans and always feel right at home.

GamecockAnthem.com will be the source for many new and exciting stories each and every day. Here you will find the stories, the audio, and the video that you want about the latest recruiting news and the progress of each major Gamecock team. You will find yourself talking with other Gamecock members about the day's features on existing and incoming players, the coaching staffs, the strategies, and the opponents they will face on the field or court. There's always going to be something fresh to talk about at GamecockAnthem.com.

We have assembled a great team of professionals to help bring you what you want to know about Gamecock sports.

Many of you know the great work of Miller Safrit, a recruiting analyst for Scout.com. Miller will be working harder than ever as the site is now committed to everyday content.

A key member of our new team is Matt Younginer. This USC grad brings 23 years of broadcast and journalism experience to the team. Matt will be providing both written stories and on-the-spot audio interviews. You will be able to click a link and hear the interviews right after they happen. He will be talking to coaches, players, recruits, and other individuals associated with Gamecock athletics that you want to hear from. Matt is currently the stadium voice for Gamecock Baseball and Soccer, replacing the legendary late Jim Forrest. He is the former host of the radio show "The Front Row."

Brothers Kyle and Kevin Heise will also be a part of our team. Kyle will be a contributing writer, bringing his unique insight into Gamecock athletics. Kyle cut his teeth writing about the Gamecocks when he worked in the Sports Information Department at Carolina. Long time Gamecock internet surfers will recognize Kyle and the insightful contributions he brings to Gamecock fans. Kevin is a well respected high school coach in Cayce and is also well known in Gamecock internet circles for his insight on USC happenings. He will be helping in a number of ways around here, including serving as a moderator and as an active leader of our forum discussions.

Speaking of moderators, we have assembled a great new moderating team. Our newest addition is also a well known entity on the web, Henry Fusco, known here as "Featheredcock." Henry was the owner of Gamecocksportsplus.com, and gave Jonathan his first break as a writer for USC sports. Other moderators here prefer to be known only by their usernames, but this site would not be possible without their ever-present help.

The internet would not be nearly as exciting without pictures, and we have a team of photographers that will dazzle you with live action shots that put you right in the action of Gamecock athletics. Our team includes JJ Smith, another Gamecocksportsplus alumnus, and three veteran professionals on the USC sidelines: Brian Gallup, Juan Blas, and Dana Harley.

Other contributing writers include Jeff Greene, Chris Wellbaum, and Wayne Harling, all veterans in covering Gamecock athletics. You will soon learn to look forward to their contributions.

A little background on your new publishers: Doug majored in journalism at USC, and began writing about Gamecock sports in 1977, as a freshman for the university newspaper, The Gamecock. During the 90's, Doug and his wife Jan were the editors and publishers of the Christian News & Herald, a community newspaper that grew to be South Carolina's largest non-daily newspaper, with a certified circulation of 40,000 households. It was also one of the ten largest papers of its genre in the country.

Not only has Doug written for several nationally published magazines, but he has been written about in the New York Times, World magazine, Christianity Today, and in several major South Carolina daily newspapers. The nationally syndicated television magazine, Inside Edition, did a feature story on Doug and his groundbreaking stories in 1995.

Jonathan has served as a credentialed reporter covering all major Gamecock sports for the past two years. He has been a featured speaker at events such as the Spartanburg County Gamecock Club, and he has been a regular invited guest on radio sports shows in both the Midlands and the Pee Dee areas of South Carolina. This past season, Jonathan was featured in a weekly segment on one radio show as the South Carolina expert on recruiting.

Today is just the beginning, so spread the word. If you like what you find here, please be sure to tell all your gamecock friends about GamecockAnthem.com. You will be glad you did.
