Brian Maddox Sets It Straight

T.L. Hanna (Anderson, SC) star running back, Brian Maddox committed to the South Carolina Gamecocks back in June, however several rumors have been circulating in recent weeks about him possibly having a change of heart. Maddox took the time to discuss those rumors and much more in a recent interview with

Maddox, whom has rated as a 4-star prospect, was asked to comment on the recent turn of events involving previous Gamecock commitment, Gary Gray, and whether or not that would have any impact on his pledge to Carolina.

"It doesn't affect it (his commitment) at all. I'm still firmly committed to South Carolina, and it's going to stay that way. We're still working on Gary. We still hang out and stuff like that, but I think he's still going to come to South Carolina when it's all said and done."

The 6'0, 215 pound Maddox also responded to the recent rumors that he was now considering the Tennessee Volunteers as a potential college destination, and he quickly put an end to that notion.

"No, no that's not true. I've heard that too, but it's not true."

Maddox, who has been timed as low as 4.4 seconds in the forty yard dash, says that he has been working diligently to improve a few aspects of his game this summer.

"My quickness, my top end speed, and my pass blocking. That (pass blocking) is a big factor."

The talented running back is in good shape academically, and he is already looking forward to majoring in engineering at Carolina.

"Last year I finished off with a 3.0 GPA, and my core was a 2.9 or something around there. I might be taking engineering classes at my school, because that's what I'm going to major in at Carolina."

Maddox, who rushed for 1,328 yards as a junior, has set a couple of individual goals for his senior season at T.L. Hanna.

"I want to rush for or over 2,600 (yards) and get at least 1,000 receiving yards on top of that."

In a growing trend among high school seniors, Maddox mentioned that he is considering graduating early and enrolling at Carolina in January.

"I don't know yet. I'm still debating about that, but it's possible."
