Matt Clements: Two at the Top

Barron Collier (Naples, FL) wide receiver Matt Clements is one of the fastest prospects in the state of Florida this year. The 6'2, 185 pound athlete has consistently been timed running below 4.4 seconds in the forty yard dash, and his combination of size and speed has helped him draw several impressive scholarship offers from schools all around the country.

"A lot of schools have offered me. South Carolina, Auburn, Pittsburgh, Indiana, Nebraska, Iowa State, Ohio State, West Virginia, and Virginia just off the top of my head."

Matt Clements, who is rated a 3-star prospect by Scout.com, currently has two teams at the top of his list.

"I'd say South Carolina and then Ohio State as well"

The electric wide receiver went on to share what he liked about his two favorites.

"I really like that South Carolina throws the ball a lot, and I just like their offense. Ohio State has always been a good program, and they throw the ball a little bit too. I like them both."

Clements, who totaled 50 receptions for 726 yards and 6 touchdowns last season, was asked to share his thoughts on the possibility of playing in a Steve Spurrier coached offense.

"I'm looking forward to it if I decide to go in that direction. He (Spurrier) is a winner, and he's been a winner his whole life. He likes moving the ball offensively, especially spreading the field and throwing it. If I end up going there, then I think It'd be a good fit. I'm looking forward to it."

The Sunshine State star originally wanted to make a decision before the end of the summer, but he has since relaxed his timeframe.

"I wanted it (a decision) to be before the season started, but I don't think it's going to happen. Possibly at the very beginning of the season or halfway through I'll know where I'm going to play (college) football at."

Clements, who holds his high school's record for the 400-meter dash, described his strengths as a player, and according to him, he can take the ball to the house on any given play.

"I'm aggressive. I've just got to get after it. I'm determined to score a touchdown every time I touch the ball."

Clements did, however, name one area of his game that he would like to improve on.

"I'd say my route running. When I'm running routes, they could be a little better and a little crisper."

Clements will be leading his Barron Collier team from the quarterback position this fall, and he has one goal on his mind heading into his senior season.

"Win a state title, that's what I want to do."
