Gary Gray stated that South Carolina leads Notre Dame for his services as of August 1 by a 55% to 45% ratio. "That's exactly what it would be right there." Gray said, as he got ready for practice at Richland Northeast.
Things have settled down some for Gray, who is ranked as the #6 cornerback prospect in the country by Scout.com, since he reopened his recruiting on July 15 to include Notre Dame, after previously committing to South Carolina.
"It was kind of hectic a couple of weeks ago when I decommitted, but it's cooled down right now." Gray said. "And everybody's understanding. I just have to make the right decision for me."
South Carolina will now get the last look from Gray. He will take official visits to both schools in September, and is scheduled to go to Notre Dame on September 16th, the weekend of the Michigan game there. The USC coaching staff has requested he move his official visit from September 9th, the weekend of the Georgia game at USC, to September 29, the day after the Auburn game, which is being played on a Thursday.
Without a game on Saturday to worry about, the USC coaches would be able to focus on Gary during his visit. Gray may be the only recruit taking his official visit that weekend.
Gray reiterated what he likes best about both schools: "USC – I know all the coaching staff and I've been to the campus so many times: been to all the football games, all the basketball games, it's just a real comfortable place for me. Notre Dame: The academic part; Charlie Weis is a great coach and I have a real good relationship with my position coach, Bill Lewis."
He is expected to make his final decision shortly after his visit to USC, and he will graduate from RNE in December so he can enroll in January at the school of his choice.
