Cade Thompson: "I Got a Lot Stronger"

Redshirt freshman quarterback Cade Thompson sat out last season while attempting to learn the offense and mature physically. After a solid spring camp, the talented signal caller appears ready to challenge for playing time in 06'. Thompson took the time to share his thoughts on a variety of topics during the South Carolina Media Day.

Question: You obviously performed very well in the spring, but what are your expectations for yourself heading into this season?

Answer: "My expectations are just to wipe all of that clean and start over. Spring was spring, so I'm going to try to go out here and get a lot better and just focus on this fall."

Question: How did the offseason workouts go for you?

Answer: "Pretty good. I gained about five pounds or so, but I got a lot stronger on the bench and everything, so I was happy with it."

Question: Are you more comfortable in the offense now that you're heading into your second year in the system?

Answer: "Yea, I definitely have a much better comfort level. I mean last year coming in, I didn't hardly know anything. This year, I have a good general knowledge of the offense. I haven't mastered it or anything, but I'm a lot more comfortable this year."

Question: How do you expect the offense, as a whole, to perform this season?

Answer: "I think we'll be much improved from last year, because it was a new offense for everyone last year, not just the freshmen. With a year under everybody's belt with this new offense, I think that we'll be much improved."

Question: What are your thoughts on new freshman quarterback, Chris Smelley?

Answer: "He's got a strong arm, but he's like me and Tommy (Beecher) last year. We really didn't know a whole lot, so it's hard to predict anything on how he's going to do. I guess we'll see how it plays out."

Question: What areas of your game would you like to improve in?

Answer: "Arm strength is one thing. I'd like to get a little bit stronger. I still need to work on my foot work a little bit."

Question: Which game are you looking forward to the most this season?

Answer: "I'm always looking forward to Tennessee, because that's where I'm from. I guess Florida and Clemson are the other two games. Going to the Swamp and going down to Death Valley ought to be fun."
