Jamon Meredith: "We're a Lot More Confident"

Right tackle Jamon Meredith is primed for an excellent season along the offensive line in 2006. The talented redshirt sophomore was recently granted a waiver, which rewarded him with another year of eligibility. GamecockAnthem caught up with Meredith at the South Carolina Media Day, and he shared his thoughts on a variety of topics.

Question: What are your expectations for yourself heading into this season?

Answer: "Myself, I just hope that I can be better and give Blake (Mitchell) a little time, because I know he'll be a big playmaker if I can give him a little time. That's what I'm going to try to do."

Question: How do you think the offensive line will perform as a unit?

Answer: "I think that the offensive line will be a lot better this year. I think the reason is because we're a lot more confident now, because we've been working hard over the summer. So I believe we'll be better as a unit."

Question: How do you expect the offense, as a whole, to perform this season?

Answer: "I think our offense will be a lot better this year, because we're a lot more confident with the offense now going into the second year of Coach Spurrier's offense. I think we'll do a lot better."

Question: What are your impressions of the new, freshman offensive linemen.

Answer: "They look pretty good. I've seen them around, but I haven't seen them play yet. I think they look pretty good. I think they'll be there to help us out, and if somebody goes down, then there will be a good person to slide in."

Question: What are your thoughts on facing a very talented Mississippi State defensive line in week one?

Answer: "Yea, Coach Nix has already told us about their (Mississippi State) defensive line. It's going to be a challenge for us, but like I said, we played against some of the best defensive lines last year. We had a good go against Clemson and they had a good defensive line, Florida was a good defensive line, so we're looking forward to the challenge."
