Chris White: The "Quarterback" of The OL

It doesn't take long for Offensive Line Coach John Hunt to tell you who his guy is to direct the group on the field: "It all starts with Chris White."

"He is my quarterback out there. He has to make everything gel." Coach Hunt said. "Chris is the one with the most experience; he will be the stabilizing force for the rest of the guys."

Coach Hunt should know what it takes for an offensive lineman to be successful, having served under Spurrier at Florida for three years as Offensive Line Coach. During those years, John Hunt coached three linemen to All-SEC honors. Two of those linemen (Mike Pearson and Kenyatta Walker) were taken in the 1st and 2nd round of the NFL draft respectively. Walker was chosen as the 2001 Jacobs' Blocking Trophy winner.

Along with his experience, Chris White has the size that is needed to be the complete package for a center in the SEC. At 6'3, 316 lbs., the senior from Chester, South Carolina, is truly able to match brawn with brains. Chris was one of only four players to have started every game in the '05 season. He has the most career starts (28) among any of the returning players and was listed this past spring on the Remington Watch List.

The offensive line has been a question mark for the Gamecocks for the past several seasons. However this past February, South Carolina signed what is arguably the most talented offensive line class in school history. With these talented young recruits coming in, it is good to know they will have a leader like Chris to help them utilize their talent to the best of their ability.
