Blake Mitchell Talks About Scrimmage

Blake Mitchell is heading into his second season as the starting quarterback at South Carolina, and after an impressive 2005 campaign, expectations are even higher this season. Mitchell spoke with after Tuesday's scrimmage, and he shared his thoughts on the Gamecocks final scrimmage of fall camp and much more.

Question: How did the scrimmage go tonight?

Answer: It was ok. It's our last scrimmage. We're just trying to get better and have everybody come out here and do their assignments as best as possible.

Question: How did you perform in comparison to the first two scrimmages?

Answer: I had a decent day. It felt like the rest of them. I've still got a little ways to go before next Thursday.

Question: How did the offensive line perform tonight?

Answer: They had a pretty good day out here. They fought hard, and they gave us a little time to throw the ball.

Question: Do you feel more comfortable now, as opposed to this time last year?

Answer: Oh yeah, I'm a lot more comfortable and confident. I know a little more of what's going on than last year at this time.

Question: What did you want to accomplish in this scrimmage?

Answer: Just to try to make good, smart decisions.

Question: How do you believe the offense has progressed since the start of fall camp?

Answer: We're coming together. The O-line's blocking better, the receviers are catching the ball a little better, and the quarterbacks are playing better too.

Question: Have you had some other guys besides Sidney Rice step up like Kenny McKinley and Syvelle Newton?

Answer: Yeah, all those guys are doing good. Kenny (McKinley) caught some balls today. The running backs ran the ball well, and the offensive line blocked good.

Question: Are you excited about Cory Boyd's return in the backfield this season?

Answer: It's always good when you've got a guy like Cory (Boyd) who is a good runner, a fast guy, can make people miss, and can catch the ball pretty well out of the backfield.
