Coach Spurrier Announces Drastic Changes

Coach Steve Spurrier announced several changes to the Gamecocks starting lineup this evening on his weekly call-in show. The changes stem from his disappointment in the performance of several players during the Gamecocks frustrating 18-0 loss to the Georgia Bulldogs this past weekend.

The new look offense will feature seven new starters, including three true freshmen making their first career starts. However, the most notable change is the insertion of versatile senior Syvelle Newton at quarterback, as he will be filling in for the suspended Blake Mitchell.

The defensive side of the ball will field three new starters this weekend, including one true freshman in linebacker Rodney Paulk. Junior Stanley Doughty will be asked to fill in for the injured Marque Hall at defensive tackle, while Jordin Lindsey has been moved from defensive end to outside linebacker this week.
