Clary's Game Balls: South Carolina/FAU

Every once in a while, I will feature a special piece called "Clary's Game Balls" when I feel the need to give a game ball away. Why? I just feel the need to recognize greatness and give credit to those that you won't always read about in the paper.

Let's Begin On Offense:

Game Ball #1: Hmmmmm…oh yeah. Maybe the "Great One." Sidney Rice was simply amazing. He set a school record with five touchdown receptions he hauled in a total of nine catches for 161 yards, and oh yeah, he made the most ridiculous catch I've seen in a long time.

Game Ball #2: Taylor Rank played his heart out while receiving his first start against Florida Atlantic. Who out there can say that they went over 100 yards rushing in their first career start? Rank ran hard all night and proved that he deserves a chance to get some carries against the big boys.

Game Ball #3: Now, to the man you won't read about. Jamon Meredith was outstanding tonight. Many times he went one on one with the opposing DE and shut him down. Even though the offensive line was streaky, Meredith wasn't. Game ball to you sir.

The Defense:

Game Ball #1: Redshirt freshman defensive tackle Lemuel Jeanpierre had the best game of his career to date. Jeanpierre recorded three tackles, including one and a half for a loss. Jeanpierre was in the backfield consistently when he was in the game and he continues to get better every Saturday.

Game Ball #2: Captain Munnerlyn had four tackles and one pass breakup against the Owls, but what he did best all night was consistently maintain great coverage. Multiple times on Saturday night Munnerlyn had very tight man coverage on the wide receiver, and when the ball was thrown his way, he denied his man to even have a chance. Munnerlyn is yet another two-star stud in the defensive backfield for Carolina.

Game Ball #3: And finally, how about the play of Eric Norwood. The talented freshman defensive end totaled one and a half sacks, he applied pressure on the QB all night long, and he seems to get more explosive off the snap every week. I do believe that Carolina has found their next great pass rusher.

I'd also like to give a real quick honorable mention to Syvelle Newton. Tying a school record for passing touchdowns in a game is outstanding and definitely worth noting.

Six game balls; not too shabby.
