Jasper Brinkley: Kentucky Post Game
Question: Considering how Kentucky came back and made it a game in the fourth quarter, does tonight still feel like a victory?
Answer: We got the victory, but there's some things we could have done better. We'll just go to practice and correct the mistakes that we made.
Question: What was the locker room like after the game?
Answer: Coach Spurrier told us we've got to come out until the end of the fourth quarter anyway. We didn't relax, but we had some mental mistakes that we've got to get better at and finishing off the second half.
Question: The defense obviously had some struggles in the fourth quarter, but what are some positives that you can take out of this game?
Answer: We just kept fighting. We didn't give up. That's probably it for us.
Question: It seems like you are always able to make a couple of plays when the defense is in goal line situations, but the defense as a whole is struggling to keep the opponents out of the end zone. Can you talk about what you guys can do to improve in that area?
Answer: Our linebacker coach always tells us to be wherever the ball is. That's just how it goes. Wherever the ball is, we're trying to get there. We're just not there yet.
Question: You're off to a great start this season, but I know you had high expectations for yourself entering into this year. Have you played up to your expectations thus far?
Answer: Not really. I want to be able to finish off the second half better than we've done. We're not finishing the second half. Every week it's just becoming a big thing for us to finish the second half. We've got to work on that. That's why we've got practice to go see what we did wrong and correct those mistakes.
Question: The run defense has appeared to steadily improve ever since the Wofford game, and you guys held Kentucky to 62 yards rushing tonight. Can you talk about what you've done to improve in that area?
Answer: It's just practice. Practice makes it a little better for us. We're working on stopping the run, and we're still trying to work on getting off the field on third down.
Question: This defense obviously still has some areas to improve in, but there is a lot of talent on the field out there. How good to you believe this defense can be once you get some things corrected?
Answer: We can be good. The only thing hurting us is ourselves. We've just got to get in our mind that we're not going to continue letting these mistakes happen. We've got to go to practice and correct these things. They've got to be corrected.
Question: Your name is already being thrown around as potentially one of the better linebackers eligible for next year's NFL draft. If the right things fell into place, would you consider going pro after this year?
Answer: Yeah, I would, but right now I'm not thinking about it. I'm just thinking about how I can help to improve the University of South Carolina.
Question: What are you guys going to focus on with the bye week coming up?
Answer: The next team, that's Vanderbilt. We're going to correct those mistakes and try to have it where don't continue to make those same mistakes.
