McKnight Off To Solid Senior Season

Scotland High School (Laurinburg, NC) defensive end Byron McKnight committed to the Gamecocks back in late August, but at that point in time, he was a relative unknown in recruiting circles. However, the word is now out on the talented defensive line prospect, as he and teammate Travian Robertson have combined to form one of the most feared defensive end tandems in the Tar Heel State this season.

Byron McKnight, who measures in at 6'4, 220 pounds, commented on how his Laurinburg team is doing so far this season, as well as how the tandem of he and Robertson have terrorized opposing offenses.

"We're 6-2 right now. We're looking to finish strong. When a team goes up against us, they don't look to run it outside because of me and Travian (Robertson). They like to run more stuff inside than outside, because they know how we are on the outside. They have to respect us."

Despite the opposition designing their game plans around avoiding he and Robertson, McKnight has still managed to accumulate an impressive stat line this season.

"So far I've got six sacks, and I'm fifth in tackling on my team. I'm just really working hard."

McKnight maintains that he is still solid in his commitment with South Carolina, and he is looking forward to making the trip down to Columbia for the Gamecocks showdown with Tennessee in a couple of weeks.

"I'm supposed to be going down there for the Tennessee game. I'm looking forward to it, and I'm really looking for them to win. I'm supposed to be going on my official visit that day."

The South Carolina coaches have done a good job of keeping in contact with McKnight since his commitment, and they would like for him to add some weight to his frame before he arrives on campus next summer.

"They've just been telling me that they want me to get my weight up, and I'll be playing end once I get up to around 235 (pounds). They haven't really told me a lot about playing time, but I'm just working hard."
