Jasper Brinkley: Vandy Post Game

Junior linebacker Jasper Brinkley has been a solid force in the Gamecock defense all season long, and Saturday afternoon against the Vanderbilt Commodores was no different. Brinkley, who is blessed with a great combination of size and speed, totaled 7 tackles, 3 tackles for loss, 2 pass deflections, and 1 quarterback hurry. Brinkley shared his thoughts on the performance after the game.

Question: Can you talk about the way the defense finished the game today, as opposed to the Kentucky game?

Answer: Coach put a huge emphasis on finishing the fourth quarter, and we worked on it all week just practicing. We finally got a game situation that we did what we had worked on.

Question: It seems like this team and this defense just doesn't give up. Does that stem from lessons learned in the past?

Answer: The reason for that is we work on keeping each other motivated. That's what we try to do. Every play, we just try to pick each other up.

Question: Is there any less pressure for the remainder of the season knowing that all you have to do is beat Middle Tennessee State to become bowl eligible?

Answer: No, it really doesn't. We don't just want to beat them, we want to win out. We want to win out the rest of our schedule.

Question: What's the next goal that you want to see this team accomplish?

Answer: We want to beat Tennessee. That's our next goal. We're going to take every game one game at a time.
