Gamecocks To Host Five Official Visitors
The Gamecocks will welcome in a trio of highly touted Georgia Military prospects on official visits this weekend, including defensive end Jarius Wynn, defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, and offensive tackle Vince Vance. Steve Spurrier and staff have made these three players a priority for the 2007 recruiting class in an attempt to shore up both lines of scrimmage entering into next season.
The Gamecocks are currently battling Georgia, Tennessee, Auburn, and Florida for Wynn, who is considered one of the top JUCO defensive linemen in the country this season. Wynn has already visited Tennessee, and he has trips scheduled to Georgia and Auburn in the next month, but the Gamecocks will have their opportunity to impress the 4-star prospect this weekend.
Irvin will be making his first official visit of the recruiting process this weekend, and Carolina will look to gain the upper hand on SEC rivals Georgia and Alabama, who he will also visit over the next couple of weeks.
It is a two team race between South Carolina and Georgia for Vance's signature, and the Gamecocks will hope to make a good impression on the 6'8, 310 pound offensive tackle this weekend, as he will make an official visit to Georgia the following weekend. A decision is expected to come shortly after he has the opportunity to see both schools.
The Gamecocks will also welcome 4-star wide receiver Larry Freeman out of Pearl River CC (Poplarville, MS) on an official visit to Columbia this weekend. Freeman currently favors the Gamecocks over offers from Tennessee, Arkansas, and Iowa State, and if his visit goes well, a commitment is not out of the question.
The final official visitor of the weekend will be Palmetto (FL) standout wide receiver Joseph Hills. The Sunshine State prospect claims offers from South Carolina, Georgia, LSU, Louisville, Nebraska, and Ole Miss among others, and he is currently maintaining an open stance on the recruiting process. Hills has already made an official visit to LSU, and he will visit Georgia next weekend, but the Gamecocks will have their opportunity to move up his list this weekend.
