Is Laurent Interested In USC?

McEachern (Powder Springs, GA) stud defensive tackle Ted Laurent committed to the Ole Miss Rebels back in April, but as is often the case in the recruiting process, other schools have continued expressing interest in the 6'1, 285 Peach State standout.

One of the schools that has maintained contact with Laurent is South Carolina, and the 4-star defensive tackle was scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Columbia this weekend. Did he make it in?

"No, I couldn't make it to South Carolina this weekend. I'm going to try and talk with Coach (Tyrone) Nix and ask him about rescheduling it."

When asked to update the recruiting process, Laurent said that two SEC schools besides Ole Miss are still in the picture with him.

"I'm not looking at schools, but schools are looking at me. Put it that way. LSU and South Carolina are the top two that are really interested. That's about it."

Laurent, who is rated as the #22 defensive tackle in the country by Scout.com, says that despite checking out other schools, he is still committed to the Rebels.

"Everything's the same old, same old. I'm still committed to Ole Miss."

The defensive stalwart took the time to describe what strengths he possesses on the gridiron.

"I'm strong, I have quick feet, and I use my hands. That's me right there. I've got the whole package."

Lastly, Laurent, who faced double and triple coverage for much of his high school career, stated that his senior season recently came to a disappointing finish.

"We're done. We finished 6-4. I had to find out on the phone the day after. The coach called me and told me we didn't make it (to the playoffs). They took somebody else."
