Decision On The Horizon For Allen?

Trinity Catholic (Ocala, FL) hard-hitting safety Antonio Allen has favored South Carolina for much of the recruiting process, but he has held off on committing to the Gamecocks due to wanting to focus on his senior season. He and teammate Dion Lecorn, who also favors USC, helped lead Trinity Catholic to a perfect 13-0 record, but they were recently upset in the playoffs.

"We just lost at state," said Allen. "We were doing good. We went 13-0, and then we got to state and lost."

With his senior season finished, Allen is now turning his full attention to the recruiting process.

"The recruiting process has been going good. I'm still thinking about South Carolina. They're still my number one school."

Allen and Lecorn, who have talked about making a dual-commitment to the Gamecocks, are not set on a decision date, but Allen acknowledged that their commitment could come sometime in the near future.

"We're not exactly sure. We're still debating on when we're going to commit, but it could possibly happen in the next month or so."

South Carolina is fresh on Allen's mind, because Coach Steve Spurrier recently stopped by his house for an in-home visit.

"Coach Spurrier and Coach Spurrier Jr. came and visited my house last Thursday. It went good. We sat down and talked over a couple of things. It went pretty well. They said I'd have a chance to start as an incoming freshman, so that was really exciting to hear."

Allen is rated as a 3-star prospect by, and many believe he is one of the top defensive back prospects in the talent-rich state of Florida this recruiting season. When asked to describe what all he brings to the gridiron, Allen gave the following response.

"I'm a good open field tackler. I have a nose for the ball, and I'm one of those guys who doesn't give up on a play. I play every play."

Allen and Lecorn are scheduled to meet with their USC recruiter, Steve Spurrier Jr., at school on Monday.
