Auguste Names Favorite

Chaminade (Hollywood, FL) 4-star cornerback Akeem Auguste made an official visit to South Carolina over the weekend, and he came away impressed with what the Gamecocks have to offer. The premier Sunshine State DB entered into the visit claiming a top four of South Carolina, Florida State, Wake Forest, and West Virginia, but where do things stand after his trip to USC? Read inside to find out.

Auguste, who weighs in at 5'11 and 180 pounds, said that he enjoyed his time in Columbia.

"It was nice. I liked it a lot," said Auguste. "Every visit is something similar, but I know I like South Carolina because of the fact that I can play early and make an impact. That's what I want really."

The standout cornerback met with several USC coaches during the visit, and Auguste was impressed with the possibility for early playing time at South Carolina.

"The coaches were telling me how I could make an immediate impact when I come, and I'd get to play in the hardest conference in the world."

Auguste, who led his Chaminade team to the third round of the playoffs this season, also enjoyed hanging out with the other prospects that were on campus this weekend, including the newly committed Stephen Garcia.

"Yeah, I had fun hanging out with all of them. I was actually on the plane with (Stephen) Garcia. He's a cool dude."

When asked to rate his visit on a scale from one to ten, Auguste nearly gave his trip a perfect score.

"It was like a ‘9‘. I had a good time."

After his trip to Columbia, Auguste named a new leader in the race for his services.

"I'd say that South Carolina is my favorite right now. I just like the fact that I could play and I could return kicks. That's what I really want to be, a kick returner, and they said I could do all that."

While Auguste named South Carolina as his favorite, he still plans on making two other visits, and he does not plan on making a decision anytime soon.

"I've still got visits to Wake Forest and Florida State. Next week I'm going to Wake Forest. I'm thinking I'll make a decision around the end of January, or I might just wait until signing day."

According to Auguste, there is only one main factor he will be looking for when making a decision on his college choice.

"Early playing time is basically it. I just want to play when I get there. I'm not trying to sit on the sidelines."
