Is USC a Contender For Gibson?
Gibson, who claims offers from major programs like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, South Carolina, Arkansas, West Virginia and others, talked about his visit to Columbia over the weekend.
"It went pretty good. I got up there Friday night really late after all the other recruits, because I had an eight hour drive, but the town is really nice. It was a beautiful town. I liked it," said Gibson. "I saw the stadium for the first time, and it's a nice sized stadium. They're planning on making it just a little bit bigger, so that'll be great. Another thing I did, was I got to meet most of the players. They were all really nice to me, and they accepted me like I was part of the team. I really had fun and enjoyed my visit."
Another highlight of the visit for Gibson was the opportunity to hang out with Head Coach Steve Spurrier.
"I spent a lot of time with Coach (Steve) Spurrier. I like him. He's a really nice guy, and he's a great coach."
Gibson's trip to Columbia also gave him the opportunity to reunite with current Gamecock Captain Munnerlyn.
"Captain Munnerlyn was my host. Me and Captain grew up together, and we're very good friends. We had a good time this weekend. We've been friends since we were like six or seven years old."
When asked to rate his visit on a scale from one to ten, Gibson nearly gave his trip a perfect score.
"I'd say my visit was at least a ‘9.' I had a really good time."
After such an enjoyable visit, the standout wide receiver shared his thoughts on where the Gamecocks stand in the race for his services.
"South Carolina, I'm definitely considering going to school there. They're a school that's stepped up here lately. Alabama is still my favorite, but I'm going to be fair to narrow it down to these few schools. I'm going to give everybody a chance. I'm going to take all my visits."
Gibson is still unsure of a timeframe for making his final decision, but he admitted that he could potentially wait until signing day to announce his college choice.
"I don't know when I'll make (my decision) yet. I guess it'll have to happen whenever it happens. It could be before signing day or on signing day, I'm not sure."
Lastly, Gibson shared several factors that he will be looking for when choosing which college he will attend.
"It needs to be a coaching staff that I can get along with. I don't want it to be too far away from home. I'm just looking for the team or school that I feel most comfortable with. They also have to have a good academic program so I can get my degree."
