Ajiboye Is a Gamecock

Hargrave Military (Chatham, VA) 3-star defensive tackle Ladi Ajiboye officially announced his commitment to the University of South Carolina on Wednesday afternoon. Ajiboye, who was considered a Virginia Tech commitment during his time at Hargrave, believes that USC is the best fit for him.

The 6'2, 290 pound Ajiboye shared what factors played a role in his decision to become a Gamecock.

"I've got a friend over there, number five, who starts on defense, Carlos Thomas. He went to Banneker (high school) with me, so he's always talking about South Carolina and stuff like that. When I went on my visit, I just had a good time when I was there. They showed me a good time on my visit, and I just felt comfortable there."

Ajiboye actually committed to South Carolina on his official visit to Columbia last season, but he then decommitted and signed with Virginia Tech. However, after being placed at prep school by the Hokies this year, Ajiboye realized that Virginia Tech was not the place for him.

"I changed my mind during the season actually when I was playing at Hargrave military. When I went on my official visit to Virginia Tech for the second time, it just didn't seem the same. Plus I heard rumors about coaches treating players wrong and stuff like that, so I decided to go to my second favorite school South Carolina."

The athletic defensive lineman also became friends with fellow Hargrave standout Clifton Geathers this fall, and the two of them have talked about playing together at USC.

"We're pretty good friends. We've talked about playing together at South Carolina. He said he wants to go there, but sometimes I don't know what Cliff is going to do."

Another factor that Ajiboye likes about South Carolina is the chance to win an SEC Championship for the first time in Columbia.

"They are going to be winning their first SEC Championship there, and I want to be a part of that."

Ajiboye, who will enroll at USC in January, believes he can compete for early playing right off the bat with the Gamecocks.

"I'll be coming in January and going through spring practice. My goal is to win a starting position on the D-line."

Ajiboye becomes the Gamecocks 25th commitment in the 2007 recruiting class.
