Gamecocks Defeat Dolphins 80-73

The University of South Carolina Men 's Basketball team followed the football team's win over Houston with an 80-73 victory over Jacksonville.

Senior Tre Kelley led South Carolina(9-2) with 20 points, but left the game at the 6:38 mark in the second half after injuring his left knee. Kelley was being evaluated by the trainers after the game and no other information about his injury was released. Kelley went 7-11 from the floor, 2-3 from behind the arc and 4-5 from the charity stripe.

Before Kelley's injury, the Gamecocks led 74-56, but would score only two points in the following six minutes.

Senior Brandon Wallace added a double-double, 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dominque Archie added 12 points and Bryce Sheldon and Dwayne Day each had 10 points, as the Gamecocks used just eight players.

The Gamecocks were once again out-rebounded 32-31, but continued their good shooting streak, going 52.7% from the floor.

The Gamecocks dominated the Dolphins in the first half with a healthy Tre Kelley, leading 39-25 at the break. It looks like the Gamecocks have settled in on a starting lineup going with Kelley, Wallace, Archie, Sheldon and Day.The Dolphins were led by Jesse Kimbrough, who had 15 points.

The Gamecocks play next on January 3rd against Western Carolina, then again on the 7th against Kansas.

Some of the Gamecock basketball players got to have an early glimpse of the Liberty Bowl game, where their football comrades were playing, before leaving to play their own game.
