Boyd Still Has More To Prove

After a successful junior season that saw Cory Boyd rush for a team leading 823 yards and 8 touchdowns, speculation began to surface that the New Jersey native was considering testing the waters in the upcoming NFL Draft.

However, after helping lead the Gamecocks to their first bowl win since 2001, Boyd assured reporters that he intends on coming back for his senior season, saying that he still has a lot left to prove.

"I definitely plan to be back next year. I put in my papers just to see where I was. There's no harm in that. I still feel as though I have a lot more to do here," said Boyd. "I still have something to prove to Gamecock Nation and to the SEC. There‘s a lot of things that I‘ve still got to do."

The 6'1, 205 pound Boyd, who hopes to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark next season, said that he is fully committed to the Gamecocks, as evidenced by the tattoo on his shoulder.

"I'm definitely a part of it. Gamecock Nation, I love ya'll. I've got a Gamecock tattoo on my shoulder, and that's what I'm going to be for the rest of my life."

Riding the momentum of a three game winning streak into the offseason, Boyd believes big things are in store for next season with the players that USC has returning.

"It's good for the program, the fans, and the team. We've got some great guys on the team now, and we're going to have some more added on next year when the season comes along. Hopefully we can keep the chemistry going."

While the Gamecocks enjoyed their Liberty Bowl experience in Memphis, the temperatures were often colder than hoped for. As a result, the team has made it a goal to enjoy a bowl destination with warmer climates following next season, according to Boyd.

"Yes, definitely. We're not looking forward to anymore cold weather bowls. We're trying to take it to the January 1st bowls and try to do some big things."

- Boyd will once again be joined by Mike Davis in the Gamecock backfield next season to form one of the top 1-2 rushing punches in the SEC.

- Boyd's 823 yards rushing are the most by a Gamecock tailback since Derek Watson rushed for 1,066 yards in the 2000 season.

- Boyd, who is a lethal receiving option out of the backfield, served as the Gamecocks third leading receiver this season, as he totaled 35 catches for 406 yards and 2 touchdowns.

- Boyd's 1,364 career rushing yards currently rank 22nd on South Carolina's all time rushing list. If he meets his goal of rushing for 1,000+ yards next season, he will crack the top ten.
