Geathers Makes It Official

Hargrave Military (Chatham, VA) 4-star defensive end Clifton Geathers committed to the Georgia Bulldogs out of high school, but after having the fall to think over his decision at prep school, the Georgetown, SC native has decided to enroll at South Carolina and play for the home state Gamecocks.

"I'm going to South Carolina," said Geathers. "It just came up all of a sudden that South Carolina is a rising team, and they could actually win the SEC next year. I looked at that, and I also looked at Georgia. Georgia is falling down, so that's one of the reasons I chose South Carolina."

The 6'7, 290 pound Geathers, who was widely considered one of the top Palmetto State prospects coming out of Carver's Bay High School last year, said he is set to arrive in Columbia later this week.

"I'll probably be getting up there on Friday or Saturday."

Geathers actually left Hargrave in the middle of the semester after making the necessary grade on his ACT, and he is now fully qualified. All he is awaiting now is word from the NCAA Clearinghouse.

"I found out I qualified. I'm good to go with that, but I don't know about the Clearinghouse."

The mammoth defensive end became good friends with fellow South Carolina commitment Ladi Ajiboye during their time at Hargrave, and they will be playing alongside each other on the Gamecock defensive line beginning this spring.

"Yeah, me and Ladi are pretty cool. I'm a defensive end, and I'm going to be playing right beside him. He's my roommate as a matter of fact."

Lastly, Geathers shared his goals for the upcoming year.

"Basically my goal is to get in the starting lineup. They said I'll have the opportunity for early playing time if I come in there and go 100 percent. They said they're going to put the best person on the field, so I've just got to go out there and work my butt off."
