Saunders Has Tough Decision Ahead

Riverside (Durham, NC) 4-star tight end Weslye Saunders made his official visit to South Carolina over the weekend, and he came away impressed with what the Gamecocks have to offer. While he enjoyed his time in Columbia, did USC help their chances with the elite Tar Heel State prospect? Read inside to find out.

The 6'5, 270 pound Saunders, who has narrowed his finalists down to North Carolina and South Carolina, talked about his time in Columbia.

"It went pretty good. I enjoyed myself," said Saunders. "I took a tour of the campus and hung out with a few of the players. We talked a little about academics and ate a lot of food."

One of the highlights of the trip for Saunders, who is also a standout basketball player, was playing a few pick up basketball games with his fellow prospects on Saturday night.

"Yeah, we played and shot some hoops. That was pretty fun. Jason Barnes was pretty good actually, and Chris Culliver wasn't bad either."

The standout tight end also got to chat with Head Coach Steve Spurrier a number of times throughout the weekend.

"I talked with Coach Spurrier, and he told me how he likes to use the tight end, his plans for the future, and what he's trying to build at South Carolina."

When asked to rate his visit on a scale from one to ten, Saunders gave his South Carolina trip a perfect score.

"It was a 10."

Now that he has visited each of his two finalists, Saunders has a tough decision ahead of him.

"Actually, I don't (have a favorite) right now. I‘m going to go home and talk things over with my family now, and I should after that."

Lastly, Saunders, who is still set to announce his college choice at a school banquet on February 5th, said his final decision will come down to a gut feeling.

"Now it's just going to come down to my gut feeling."
