One on One With Moe Brown
GamecockAnthem.com caught up with Brown after a recent practice, and the Anderson, SC native said he is ready to show what he can do this year:
Question: With the loss of Sidney Rice, is there more competition among the wide receivers now to try and take his place?
Answer: Yeah, with all these guys, we've got some great receivers. Then we've got the (new) ones coming in. The competition is higher, and we know it's higher. The coaches are telling us that it's open season. That's one thing Coach Spurrier has preached, that the best talent will play.
Question: What do you think you've improved in the most since the end of last season?
Answer: Knowledge. I feel like I've improved my knowledge as far as understanding defenses. I'm understanding the philosophy of our offense like what we want to do to get open and why we do it.
Question: Do you kind of feel like your ankle injury hampered you last season?
Answer: No excuses. Excuses are for losers. I had an okay season. I think I kind of underachieved a little bit, but I plan on making a big comeback this year though.
Question: What kind of mindset do you have this spring with the opportunity to play a bigger role in the offense now?
Answer: I face it like I face anything else in life, with arms wide open. I'm ready for the challenge. Sidney (Rice) is gone, so now we've got to step up and make plays.
Question: Have you set any goals for yourself this spring?
Answer: Oh yeah, I plan on being in the top three (receivers) and starting before the season starts. I just want to show these coaches what I really can do, because I feel like I'm one of the best receivers out here.
