Three Players Suspended For Season Opener

GamecockAnthem.com has learned that quarterback Blake Mitchell, defensive back Chris Hail and running back Bobby Wallace will be suspended for USC's September 1 opener against Louisiana Lafayette for faulty attendance during summer classes. Read inside for more.

Sources within USC have confirmed to GamecockAnthem.com that Mitchell, Hail and Wallace will be suspended for the season opener.

Mitchell, a fifth year senior, will be replaced by redshirt freshman quarterback Chris Smelley in the starting line up.

Reports that senior defensive end Jordin Lindsey are also suspended for the opener are inaccurate, according to sources close to the situation. Lindsey, who was suspended for much of the first two weeks of fall practice due to his eligibility being in question, is awaiting word from the NCAA on a waiver that he's applied for, which will determine if he is eligible to play this season. GamecockAnthem.com has been informed that the decision may come down to the last minute.
