Is Bowens Nearing a Decision?
The 6'2", 210 pound Bowens, who has been timed at 4.41 seconds in the forty yard dash, said on Tuesday night that South Carolina is now emerging as the team to beat for his services.
"South Carolina is starting to stand out a little bit more than (North Carolina)," said Bowens. "I've been getting some input from Chris Culliver, one of my former teammates that goes there. He said he loves it down there and tells me how the coaches are and stuff."
According to Bowens, the possibility for early playing time is also intriguing at South Carolina.
"There's a possibility I could play early there. They said they're losing two of their senior linebackers, and they're trying to fill their linebacker position depth chart."
Bowens, who said he hopes to visit South Carolina sometime this month but does not have a date set yet, is close to putting an end to the recruiting process.
"I'll probably make a commitment by the end of this month. I'm going to make the best decision for me and look at the academics, possible playing time and the coaches."
The versatile Bowens plays linebacker, safety and some running back for Garner, and he has gotten off to a strong start in his senior season.
"We're 4-0. I've done good. I'm the leading tackler on the team. I think I've got 22 tackles and about 4 sacks."
When asked what he brings to the field as a linebacker, Bowens replied succinctly, "A lot of big hits."
Bowens is rated by Scout.com as the #33 strongside linebacker in the country this recruiting year.
