4-star Florida Commitment Trips to USC

Even though 4-star running back Franklin Green officially committed to the Florida Gators back in August, Coach John Hunt and the Gamecocks have quietly kept in touch with the standout tailback, and the Gamecocks were rewarded on Saturday with an unofficial visit from Green and his highly touted teammate Chaz Sutton. Read inside for all the details on how their trip to Columbia went.

The 5'11", 200 pound Green, who is rated by Scout.com as the #20 running back prospect in America this recruiting year, enjoyed his time in Columbia and came away impressed with how the Gamecocks utilize their tailbacks.

"I made it to South Carolina yesterday," said Green. "I got the chance to talk with Coach (Robert) Gillespie, the running backs coach. We went over some plays in the film room, and he showed me all the handoffs (that USC's running backs) get. I was impressed by that. I also got to talk to Coach (Steve) Spurrier for a little while too. Then we went to the game, and it was fun. It was something I'd never seen before."

According to Green, the Gamecocks already have a talented backfield, but he believes they lack the breakaway threat that he could provide at the running back position.

"Coach Gillespie told me that he wants me to come in there. They have great running backs in Cory Boyd and Mike Davis, but they don't have the speed to outrun defenders. That's what he was pointing out when he was showing me the highlight film. He wants a player that can come in there with breakaway speed like me."

Green was joined at USC on Saturday by his high school teammate and fellow Florida commitment Chaz Sutton, who is rated a 3-star prospect and the #47 ranked defensive end in the country by Scout.com

"Chaz was down there with me, and he talked to the coaches too. He talked with Coach Spurrier, and he told him that they want him down there at South Carolina. Chaz was really impressed with them too."

When asked what stood out most to him about his time in Columbia, Green replied that meeting Coach Gillespie for the first time had a big impact on him.

"I had never talked to Coach Gillespie before until yesterday, so now I feel really comfortable around him. He seems like a great coach and a great mentor."

After seeing first hand what the Gamecocks have to offer, Green updated where South Carolina now stands with him.

"I'm interested in both schools. I'm still committed to Florida, but I'm keeping my options open."

Green, who runs a 4.42 second forty yard dash, also said that he and Sutton have two return trips to Columbia planned for the coming months.

"We're going to try to go back down to South Carolina in two weeks (for the Mississippi State game), and then we're going to try to go watch the Florida and South Carolina game (on November 10)."

Green is being recruited by Coach John Hunt for the Gamecocks, and he said he plans official visits to both Florida and South Carolina in January. Green has helped lead Jenkins to a 2-0 start on the season, and he has racked up 475 yards and 6 touchdowns on just 37 carries thus far.
