Next commitment?

The Gamecocks are set to play host to one of their top offensive line targets in the 2008 recruiting class this weekend, as Riverdale (Murfreesboro, TN) standout lineman David Spurlock will make his first ever visit to Columbia. Spurlock openly favors South Carolina heading into the visit, but is a commitment a possibility while on campus this weekend? Read inside to find out.

The 6'5", 290 pound Spurlock, who is considered one of the top prospects in the Volunteer State this year, has an impressive list of offers to his credit, and he's looking forward to making his first ever trip to South Carolina on Saturday.

"I've got offers from N.C. State, Vanderbilt, Louisville, MTSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Arkansas State. I had them from Tennessee and Alabama," said Spurlock. "This weekend I'm going to South Carolina. That'll be my first trip there. I'm just looking forward to getting down there and seeing how good they play and see what it's like around the school. I really want to see the school and what it's like around campus."

The Gamecocks are recruiting Spurlock as an offensive guard, and the talented lineman is openly favoring USC heading into this weekend.

"South Carolina's at the top of the list. After that, there's not that many favorites."

When asked if a commitment was possible on his visit to Columbia this weekend, Spurlock replied that it's a definite possibility.

"Maybe. I'm looking forward to it."

According to Spurlock, he's looking for a few key factors to help him decide which school is the right place for him.

"Coaching's a factor, what position I'm playing and if they have a winning season or not."

Spurlock, who is being recruited by Coach Steve Spurrier Jr. for the Gamecocks, shared what strengths he possesses as a player on the football field.

"I have quick feet. I come off the ball hard, and I'm hard nosed."

The athletic lineman closed by discussing how his senior season is going thus far.

"It's going real good. We're undefeated and hopefully we'll be undefeated the rest of the year. Personally, I'm doing a little better than last year. I think I've gotten better."
