Ten questions with Reid McCollum

South Carolina quarterback commitment Reid McCollum has been arguably the top signal-caller in attendance at the Shrine Bowl so far this week. Read inside as McCollum, who will enroll at USC in January, talks about the Shrine Bowl experience, playing alongside several of his future Gamecock teammates, what he's looking forward to about enrolling early and much more.

Question: How's everything going for you so far in the Shrine Bowl workouts?

Answer: "It's going good. We're putting in a lot of new stuff, and there's a lot of talent out here. It's been great meeting all these great athletes. I'm honored to be up here. It's pretty fun."

Question: What's the adjustment like for you when going up against the level of talent out here?

Answer: "When we scrimmage the defense, there's a lot of speed out there, and we've got a lot of people on offense that can make plays. It's just getting used to trusting everyone out there and spreading the ball around."

Question: You've got several of your future teammates at USC out here with you this week. What's it like playing with them?

Answer: "It's pretty fun playing with them. We've got that Clemson-Carolina thing going too, so it's just fun to be out here with the guys I'll be playing with for the next few years."

Question: T.J. Johnson's gotten off to a real strong start on the offensive line. What are your impressions of him?

Answer: "He's a great player. He's got all the size he needs, and he's got good speed on the line. He's going to be a big help for us."

Question: Have you been working any of the uncommitted prospects out here to join you at South Carolina?

Answer: "Oh yeah, I'm trying to do a little bit of recruiting to see who wants to come to South Carolina to play. We're trying to get as much talent down there as we can. I'm just working them and trying everybody right now."

Question: You're obviously set to enroll at USC in January. What are you looking forward to about getting in there early?

Answer: "I'm just planning on using the extra time to workout and go through spring practice. It's not going to do anything but help me. I'm just looking forward to being up there."

Question: What have the coaches told you to expect when you do arrive on campus?

Answer: "When we start working out, it's going to be pretty rough there in January and February. They've said to expect a lot of reps in spring practice and through the spring game. I'm looking forward to it."

Question: What are you expecting as far as the opportunity for early playing time at USC?

Answer: "I know I'm going to get a chance. It's just a matter of whether I'm going to take advantage of that chance and show them what I can do."

Question: I know A.J. Green visited the South Carolina-Clemson game with you a few weeks ago. Do you think there's any chance he takes an official visit to USC?

Answer: "I don't know. That would be sweet, but he's firm on his commitment to Georgia. I'm happy for him, and he's happy for me."

Question: Do you two talk a little trash about going to rival SEC schools?

Answer: "Oh yeah, we talk about it a good bit. I went down there with him to the Georgia-Carolina game this year, and we whooped up on them pretty good."
