Doerr has perfect trip to USC

Katy (TX) standout punter Ryan Doerr is widely considered to be one of the top punter prospects in America this recruiting year, and the South Carolina commitment made his official visit to Columbia this weekend to meet with new Special Teams Coordinator Ray Rychleski and learn more about the school he'll be attending next fall. Read inside for all the details.

Ryan Doerr, who committed to South Carolina back in mid-October, had what he described as a perfect official visit to USC over the weekend, and he learned a lot more about the campus, the academics and the overall environment in Columbia.

"It was definitely a '10' by far. It was the best place ever. Everything went great. I met all the coaches, and they're all really nice and are great people. I'm just really excited to come here next year and play," said Doerr. "The campus is really pretty. They've got a great education system. Everything is football-oriented. It's just a great environment to be around."

The talented punter had the opportunity to meet with new Special Teams Coordinator Ray Rychleski for the first time, and he came away very impressed with his future position coach.

"I got to talk with Coach Ray for a while. We're really getting to know each other. He's a great guy and a great coach. He's got a great reputation, and I feel honored to be a part of it."

Doerr is not sure yet how he will fit into USC's plans as a true freshman with senior Ryan Succop returning next season, but he stated that he is willing to work hard and will help out anyway he can.

"Next year we've still got Ryan Succop coming back, and he's still got the majority of (the kicking duties). We haven't really talked about where I'll fit into everything yet, but I'm just going to come out next season and practice hard to see what I can do to help out."

Doerr, who was hosted by USC longsnapper Charles Turner, described what strengths he brings to the field as a punter.

"As a punter, one of my biggest strengths is probably my hang time. I get it up there really high so the other team can't get any returns."

He closed by passing on an enthusiastic message for the Gamecock Nation.

"Go Cocks!"

Doerr was recently voted an Academic All-State selection with a 3.94 GPA. He plans to enroll at USC in early July for the second session of summer school.
