Florida linebacker intrigued by USC
"Yesterday I received three new offers," said Antwon Higgs. "I was offered by Western Michigan, West Virginia and North Carolina State. I have also received offers from South Carolina, FIU, Louisville and Northern Illinois. I am excited about all the offers and glad these schools are interested in me."
"I thought for a while it would be tough for schools to come see me because I play at a small school. I thought I would need to transfer for them to notice me, but our coach has got so many schools to visit. We had Wisconsin and Boston College here the other day. Mississippi State, Miami, Florida, Kansas State, Kentucky and Penn State have visited as well."
Higgs completed spring training and is now set to begin a busy summer.
"We are in our summer work outs now," he said. "We won our spring game 39-0. I couldn't really tell if I have improved. I didn't really do much in the game. We were a lot bigger on the defensive line than the other team. I did feel like I did better at tight end. My coach told me I need to work on my technique and staying lower."
"I know this summer I am going to two team camps. Miami wants me to come down there for a one day camp. I know I am going to take a few unofficial visits. I know I am going to go up to South Carolina for sure."
Schools such as Auburn, Miami, Kansas State and Wisconsin are showing interest, but have yet to offer. He does not list a top five, but South Carolina, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Miami are schools peaking his interest.
South Carolina: "I like the position they are recruiting me to play. Most schools are saying they are recruiting me as a defensive end, but I would like to play linebacker as well. South Carolina wants to play me like Eric Norwood. I want to go to a program that fits my talent."
West Virginia: "I just recently talked to their head coach [Bill Stewart]. I like the way he talked to me. They have a winning program. I know they have a good program, and I am looking to learn more about them."
Wisconsin: "When they came to the school they talked good about the program. They have a good educational program. They go to bowl games almost every year. They have gone to eight straight bowl games."
Miami: "That is the big school close to home. Everyone wants to go to the U. They put a lot of players in the NFL. It's a business thing when you get to college, and I am going to treat it like a business. Two of my favorite linebackers, Dan Morgan and Ray Lewis, came from Miami."
Higgs plans to wait a while before making a decision.
"I am going to try to make my decision toward the end of the season," he explained. "I know I will have a decision before signing day. I want to be able to go to a school get a good education and use my talent the best. I want to get some early playing time if I can."
