Peach State LB names top two
The 5'11", 207 pound Huzzie had a big junior year, recording 107 solo tackles including 27 tackles-for-loss and two interceptions. Huzzie also had what he called a "great" spring and now has offers from South Carolina, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Duke, Memphis, UAB, Vanderbilt and Georgia Southern among others, with Auburn also showing interest.
Huzzie saw coaches from Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Duke, Memphis, West Virginia, Clemson, Mississippi State and UAB come by LaGrange High School to watch him practice this spring.
While Huzzie has not had the chance to get out and see a lot of the schools he wants to yet, he does have some of those visits set up.
"I've set up a couple of camp dates. I'm supposed to be going to Oklahoma State June 8, and I'm supposed to make my way out to Memphis June 21. And I'm going to South Carolina next month. I'm going to Auburn (this summer), too."
Even though he is just now starting the process of getting out and seeing what these programs have to offer, Huzzie says he already knows who is in his top group of schools.
"Right now I have two: South Carolina and Kentucky. They're about the same. Duke and Memphis, they're really coming up (behind those two) right now."
Huzzie, who runs the forty-yard dash in 4.59 seconds, is being recruited by South Carolina running backs coach Robert Gillespie, who has already developed a solid relationship with the Georgia product.
"He's real cool and a down-to-earth guy. He tells me the truth. He seems like he would be real cool to be around as a coach. He's a great coach."
Even though he hasn't been to Columbia, Huzzie says he has begun doing research on the Gamecocks' program and likes what he has seen, so far.
"I've been on their website and stuff, and I like their campus they have, their weight room facility, and the atmosphere around. It seems like a great place to be."
Huzzie has also been impressed with his Kentucky recruiter and former Gamecocks wide receivers coach, Joker Phillips.
"He's cool and fun to be around. I've got a couple of friends up there (former LaGrange, Ga. players Randall Burden, Demoreo Ford, and Braxton Kelley ) in Kentucky. I've been up there a couple of times, and they take me around and show me some stuff. It would be a good place to be, too."
Huzzie says he also knows former LaGrange standout and South Carolina quarterback Blake Mitchell, but has not talked to Mitchell about the Gamecocks.
The athletic ‘backer knows what factors he will be looking for when ultimately deciding on his college choice.
"I want to be around a great coaching staff and a great atmosphere around town. I want to be around people who make me feel like I'm at home and make me feel comfortable."
According to Huzzie, he wants to make a commitment sometime right before the beginning of the season or midway through. He does want to take some official visits, and if he had to decide today South Carolina, Kentucky, and Oklahoma State would get three of those visits.
