Twice as nice: USC lands 2nd camp commitment

The Gamecocks picked up their second commitment of the night on Friday when Coffee County (Douglas, GA) standout wide receiver DeMario Bennett gave his verbal pledge to USC at the conclusion of the first annual Gamecock Showcase Camp. Read inside for all the details.

Making his second camp stop in Columbia this summer, Bennett said he was anxious to get to South Carolina and let the coaches know his intention of committing to the Gamecocks on Friday evening.

"I committed today," DeMario Bennett said shortly after the conclusion of the camp. "It's pretty relieving. I couldn't wait to get here."

The 6'3", 185-pound wide out says he chose the Gamecocks because of the offense they run and the attention they have shown him during the recruiting process.

"Of course they're going to throw it," Bennett said with a smile. "And they showed a lot of interest."

Bennett, who chose the Gamecocks over an offer from the Arkansas Razorbacks, says that while he enjoyed the camp, he always thinks that he can play better.

"I feel like I did good, but I could have done better," Bennett said. "My releases and my hands, and trying to get stronger and faster [are all things I'm trying to get better at]."

Bennett enjoyed working with his future position coach Steve Spurrier, Jr. at the camp and says he is ready to play for him in the future.

"It was pretty good," Bennett said. "He's a cool coach."

Bennett, who runs the forty-yard dash in under 4.5 seconds, says he also likes the South Carolina campus and enjoyed seeing it last time he was in Columbia.

"I took a tour of it last time I came here," Bennett said. "I like it. I'm going to be coming here next summer, and that pretty much helped with that."

The talented receiver has a message for Gamecock Nation and says he plans to bring one thing to Columbia next year: "Touchdowns!"
