Newest Gamecocks Excited to be Aboard

South Carolina coach Darrin Horn has the basketball world abuzz about the change he's bringing to the Gamecocks program. Horn's first two recruits as the coach of South Carolina officially signed letters-of-intent from the 2009 class in the early period for basketball recruiting on National Signing Day.

Even though Nov. 12 isn't the only day recruits could have signed in the early signing period (Nov. 12-19), Horn inked his commits on that day.

"It feels real good. I was happy when I signed," said Ramon Galloway, a 6-foot-1 point guard from Gardens High School in Palm Beach, FL. "I did it at school around like 1 o'clock. I didn't know I was going to sign on the 12th, but I knew I was going to sign early."

"When I signed, I called the coach and faxed him the papers," Galloway said.

The other signee was 6-foot-5 wing Lakeem Jackson from Christ School, Arden, NC. Jackson signed along with other players from the Christ School team that consisted of several Division 1 signees.

Jackson and Galloway had not had a chance to talk, but they had previously had some contact, according to Galloway.

"I talked to (Jackson) over the internet and such, but I haven't got to talk to him on the phone or anything," he said. "The coaches told me that he's real laid back and a real nice guy."

Galloway has revenge on his mind, and that's to lead his school to a state title.

Jackson's team won the private school state title, but his revenge is pointed at a certain target for a short-term goal — Oak Hill Academy. According to the local paper, Jackson guaranteed a victory over the perennial power. Christ School lost to a Brandon Jennings led Oak Hill team last year 71-68 at the Greensboro Coliseum. These are the types of winning attitudes Horn has coming into the Gamecock program in the upcoming season.

Even though these guys have been locked up by South Carolina, Galloway says Horn is still on them about playing hard in their senior year so they can continue to improve; and challenges them to keep their heads in the books to keep their grades up.

Stay tuned to to see what other recruits Horn locks up for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
