Lawrence, Shropshire and Rathe All Now Official

Big early signing days are a rarity in college football. Unlike College basketball which has an early signing day, football recruitnics have typically focused on the first Wednesday is February in past seasons. But for Gamecock fans, Wednesday's early signing day turned into a coup ...

Marcus Lawrence - one of the top JuCo linebackers in the country signed his Letter of Intent to play for the Gamecocks today. The 6-4 235 pounder out of Butler Community College in Kansas originally signed with the Gamecocks out of Silver Bluff high school and will be available for spring practice. While many have speculated that Lawrence is slated for defensive end duty at USC, our sources tell us he is a linebacker all the way.

Joining Lawrence on this early signing day was 5-star highly-touted defensive lineman Darrell Shropshire (6-4 285 4.9). This was perhaps the biggest of the early signings for the Gamecocks who needed a talented and experienced big man to sure up their interior defensive line needs in the coming season. Shrophire signed with USC out of high school but joins the team via Coffeyville Junior College in Kansas.

Finally Mike Rathe (6-2 210), the Junior College Quarterback out of San Diego Mesa is headed across country to help sure up his position for Skip Holtz's offense this coming season. But coming in early it is hoped that Rathe will compete and push for the starting job and add stability to what was a weak spot for the Gamecocks this past season.
