Stallworth Impressed with Spurrier

It was an exciting time in Columbia this weekend as the South Carolina Gamecocks' staff played host to multiple South Carolina commitments as well as a couple of highly regarded targets. One of those targets was Auburn commitment and three-star wide receiver Travante Stallworth. Read inside as has the full report on Stallworth's official visit to check out the Gamecocks.

"It went pretty good. All of the players and coaches were real nice," Travante Stallworth said. "I talked to Coach Spurrier a couple of times and he's real excited about me. I interacted with the recruits real good so everything went nice."

While some critics have always pegged Spurrier as a head coach who doesn't enjoy recruiting, Stallworth came away impressed with his interactions with the Head Ball Coach.

"Just how Coach Spurrier knew everybody (stood out)," Stallworth said. "He knew all 16 recruits and didn't just know one person. So he knows all of his players and he told me stories about some of the receivers he recruited in the past that went to the NFL, so it was just real nice how he went about everything."

Stallworth said in previous interviews with that his bond with each coaching staff would play a big part in his decision. He says he was able to spend ample time with Spurrier and wide receivers coach Steve Spurrier, Jr.

"I talked to Coach Spurrier, Jr. a lot," Stallworth said. "We have a conversation about everything and how they would use me. Me and him kind of have a bond right now."

With so many South Carolina verbal commitments on campus, Stallworth was also able to spend time with multiple future Gamecocks. He says they all did their part to convince him to join them in Columbia.

"About three or four of them were telling me to pull the trigger," Stallworth said. "They were just welcoming me with open arms and just wanted me to come up there. They talked to me about who was recruiting them and they told me that South Carolina was the place for them. I talked to a couple of them and they just wanted me to come up there to help the team out."

Despite the positive visit, Stallworth says he is still committed to Auburn. He also enjoyed a positive official visit to Michigan last week. He says both visits were similar.

"They're both real nice," Stallworth said. "Michigan has a lot of construction going on right now with their facilities and buildings. South Carolina also has a lot of construction going on as they just got done with their training room. They're trying to fix it up where you walk in and see all kinds of memorabilia. So everything's going to be real nice."

Stallworth has a final official visit planned for Auburn next weekend. After that visit he will sit down and make a final decision. He says he has no idea when that decision might actually come.

"I'm still trying to look and see what everybody is offering me or whatever," Stallworth says. "I'm just trying to talk to everybody about everything and talk to my friends about the place they like the best. I'm just trying to wait and see what happens."
