Fordham Ready to be at South Carolina

Timberland HS (Saint Stephen, SC) defensive end Aldrick Fordham has been committed to South Carolina since mid-summer and finally took his official visit this weekend along with a number of other future Gamecocks. Fordham made the trip with teammate and USC target Quinton Washington. Read inside as Fordham shares with GamecockAnthem.com how the visit went.

"It was good. They had a lot of stuff for us to do out there," Fordham said of the visit.

While Fordham spent time with many players and coaches on the trip, his time spent with the academic advisors was most memorable. He would like to major in Accounting.

"They asked us what we wanted to major in and they took us to that part of the school," Fordham said. "And then (they) had professors talk about the different majors and what jobs you can get."

Fordham also enjoyed spending time with many of his future South Carolina teammates who were also officially visiting this weekend. It was the first time many of the players were in the same place at one time.

"It was good hanging out with and getting to know all of those players that are actually going to be your teammates next year," Fordham said. "Most of them, I already knew, but a couple of guys it was my first time meeting."

While not spending time with the advisors or his future teammates, Fordham spent time with his recruiter of record Steve Spurrier, Jr. and future position coach Brad Lawing. Spurrier, Jr. and Lawing had a similar message for the nation's No. 32 defensive end.

"Basically they were just telling me some things to do to get ready for this summer," Fordham said. "Really Coach Lawing was just telling me to come in… in good running shape, and that would be the best thing to help me coming in."

Fordham is currently playing basketball at Timberland, and says he has been doing more running than lifting to get ready for new strength coach Craig Fitzgerald's workout regimen. Fordham was extremely impressed with his first meeting with Fitzgerald.

"We all got to meet up with him and hear about the ideas he has for the weight-lifting program," Fordham said. "He seemed to know a lot about what he was doing and seemed to have a lot of passion. All of the players that are already up there seem to like him too."

Fordham was also impressed with the Gamecocks' new training facility. One thing in particular about the facility grabbed his attention.

"Everything in there was just top-notch," he said. "They've even got a treadmill in a pool with a flat screen TV in front of it!"

With less than a semester left until he graduates, Fordham says he is ready to get to Columbia and compete. While he didn't have a message for Gamecock Nation, a jubilant Fordham did offer one more reason he is ready to get to Columbia for good.

"Actually, I'm excited I will be getting out of my parents' house! It's very stressful," he said jokingly.
