Lakeem Jackson recently scored his 1,000th point, was named to the 2009 Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic, as well as the Florida vs. USA all-star games, and he recently scored a career-high 32 points against nationally ranked Centennial High (GA) on senior night to help bring his team to victory. Most recently, Jackson helped his team win its conference tournament 63-49 over Asheville Christian Academy (NC) as well.
One might wonder what's so special about scoring you're 1,000th point in the conference tournament of your senior year. Well, the answer is easy: This is only his second year with Christ School (NC).
"I'm just glad to be a part of something for my senior year," Jackson said. "With my 1,000th point (Friday), I looked at it as a big accomplishment. Not many people can say that they scored 1,000 points (in two years), and I'm really proud of myself."
Jackson came to the Greenies from Harding High in his native city of Charlotte, NC, a hotbed of talent that South Carolina coach Darrin Horn has recruited heavily.
Since then, the 6-foot-5 four-star recruit has really blossomed and has grown really close to his teammates.
"Senior night was big," he said. "Going into that game, we were ranked (lower) than Centennial, and we had a lot to prove. I just went into the game with the mind set of helping my team out in any way that I could, and luckily, I reached a career high."
Even though Jackson's high school team already seems like an all-star team with about eight division 1 players on it, including Duke commit Mason Plumlee. and at least three others that will play at high-major schools, Jackson is still excited about showcasing his game in the two all-star games for which he has been selected.
"I'm going to enjoy being in these two all-star games," Jackson said as he reflected on his accomplishments thus far for his career.
But it's not all over yet. Starting Thursday, the Greenies have a NCISAA 3-A state title to defend in Charlotte, where Jackson can further leave his stamp on the Christ School program.
