Gamecocks offer Peach State OL

South Carolina is placing a key emphasis on offensive line recruiting in the 2010 class, and the Gamecocks extended a verbal offer to an emerging Peach State lineman on Saturday when he made an unofficial visit to the USC campus. Buford (GA) standout lineman Duvon Millsap is a physically imposing, aggressive 6-5, 300 pounder on the offensive line. South Carolina and new o-line coach Eric Wolford have been evaluating the Peach State prospect for several months, and on Saturday USC stepped forward with a verbal offer for the talented lineman.

"South Carolina verbally offered me today," said Millsap. "Coach Wolford told me (about the offer). He said I could maybe go up there and play early if I work hard enough. Coach Wolford said I'd fit in best as a guard. I also got to talk to Coach Spurrier and Coach Beamer during practice."

According to Millsap, the Gamecocks have now vaulted to the top of his list, and he's impressed with the direction that Steve Spurrier has the USC program headed.

"South Carolina is my leader," he said. "This was my second trip up there. I like it a lot, it's very impressive there. They're really looking up. I think they're going to be real good next year."

USC held its first scrimmage of the spring on Saturday, and Millsap paid close attention to the play of the Gamecocks' offensive line and the coaching of Wolford.

"The offensive line really looked good," he said. "Coach Wolford is a great coach, I really like him a lot."

Millsap, who said he is also receiving interest from Alabama and UCF, plans to make a final decision on his college choice by the end of the summer, and he already has a good idea of what factors he's looking for in a school.

"I think I'll probably make my final decision before football season starts," he noted. "I want to go somewhere where they don't just care about football but where they also have good academics."

The Buford High School product plans to make a return trip to South Carolina in early June for the Gamecocks' summer camp. He is being recruited by USC coach Shane Beamer.

Millsap is a friend and high school teammate of versatile lineman Kolton Houston, another Gamecock target.
